Have you ever contemplated the profound transformations our world has undergone over the course of your life? It's truly remarkable! Recently, I've embarked on an intriguing experiment with artificial intelligence (AI) to delve into its capabilities. By refining queries and posing specific questions, I've unearthed intriguing insights. Join me as I unveil the results of this AI experiment. It promises to be an enlightening experience! 🚀✨
Starting with something simple, I asked AI what changes I might have witnessed over the years given the fact that my formative years were lived in Northern Ireland before our family of five immigrated to Canada.
Here is what my ‘buddy’ offered:
“Although she departed Ireland in 1970, she may not have been directly involved in or fully aware (of the political complexities of the Troubles. Nonetheless, she would have been influenced by the broader social and cultural environment shaped by the conflict. (Personal note here…I was totally aware of the Troubles, it would have been impossible not to be.)
Family and Community Influence: Her upbringing would have been shaped by the attitudes of her family and community towards the Troubles, likely influencing her understanding indirectly.
Immigration Decision: The political tension and economic uncertainty during the Troubles likely factored into her family's choice to move to Canada for better prospects and safety.
Impact on Identity: Leaving Ireland at a young age, the Troubles remain integral to her cultural identity, fostering a connection and interest in Ireland's history and ongoing struggles.
Continued Interest: Over time, she may have gained a deeper understanding of the Troubles through media, education, or personal ties to relatives in Ireland.”
Great start! I can say that AI did a great job of describing my experience. I furthered the ‘discussion’ asking about how events in the world in general would have impacted me. Here are some key events and shifts my AI buddy suggested:
“Women's Rights Movement: She witnessed strides in the women's rights movement, with changes in laws and attitudes leading to increased gender equality in Ireland and Canada.
Technological Advancements: She experienced rapid technological progress, including personal computing, the internet, and mobile communication, transforming daily life and communication.
Social and Cultural Changes: She observed shifts in social norms, embracing diversity, multiculturalism, and greater awareness of LGBTQ+ rights.
Political Changes: She witnessed major events like the end of the Cold War and globalization, shaping international relations and domestic policies in Ireland and Canada.
Environmental Awareness: She saw rising concerns about climate change and pollution, prompting efforts in conservation and environmental policy.
Economic Shifts: She experienced economic fluctuations, globalization, and the rise of technology-driven economies across decades.
Global Events: She lived through significant global events like the Gulf War and September 11 attacks, impacting geopolitics and international relations.”
Very interesting indeed. Moving into my profession as a coach and consultant, I wanted to hear it’s opinion regarding the ethical use of AI in my coaching and writing practice. Again, my AI buddy had some interesting ‘words of wisdom’ to share:
“Informed Consent: Roberta must ensure clients and readers understand AI's purpose, capabilities, and privacy implications, allowing them to opt out if desired.
Data Privacy and Security: She must prioritize data protection, implementing encryption and access controls while adhering to relevant regulations like GDPR or CCPA.
Bias and Fairness: Roberta must mitigate AI biases through diverse data and fairness-aware techniques to ensure equitable outcomes for all.
Accountability and Transparency: Documenting decisions and methodologies fosters trust, allowing Roberta to justify AI-driven recommendations and welcome feedback.
Human Oversight: While AI augments her practice, Roberta must exercise professional judgment and intervene when necessary to uphold ethical standards and prevent harm."
"Based on this, Roberta can ethically leverage AI in her coaching and writing by adhering to these principles, maximizing benefits while safeguarding clients' and readers' well-being.”
Again, valuable insights. Lots to consider, but the point that I appreciate the most is number 5 — Human Oversight and Intervention. I believe we all need to remember that just because something can be done, doesn’t mean it should be done.
What are your thoughts on AI and how are you implementing it into your professional life? What are the benefits, and what do you see as the concerns?
